If you count all of those we have over 20 senses actually There are just 5 generally accepted senses. What is a sense and what isn't a sense is debatable. |

Some people believe that consciousness is an illusion that's simply created by your physical senses, and your brain's ability to interpret those senses. So people like me believe that consciousness isn't so much "one thing" as it is a combination of several, your ability to have higher thinking obviously being the key to this interpretation. For example, they've done experiments with Chimpanzees for their ability to recognize self-awareness, and found that Chimps don't have this ability. And seeing blackness isn't really an accurate assessment of this way of thinking because you'd still be conscious of the blackness. But I must say that it is interesting seeing how different people can be, based on the fact that we are basically all the same. There are some intriguing and extraordinary people out there. But I know that my like or dislike of those people are simply a result of chemicals in my brain and my ability to interpret the feelings that I get from them. I even know that the love I have for my husband is a result of chemicals in my brain, but that alone doesn't make the feeling of love any less real or pleasurable to me. I believe that people's personalities are more tied to nurture and genes than anything else. I know kids that don't know their dads, but are just like them in many ways. However, we can only imagine what "non-existence" might feel like. We are incapable if imagining an existence that would be void of self-awareness because self-awareness and interpreting information from our senses is what our brains are designed to do. I think when we die, we die, more or less like every other being in this world. I wish it wasn't that way, but imo it is. Although to find something else when I die would be great and I'd be happily surprised, eternal rest doesn't sound all that bad. The human mind is insanity and the human experience is crazy, if it's all one shot and it's over and done with, I have no complaints. |
